Abstract
This study was conducted to develop Angelica gigas as a functional ingredient for health functional foods by selecting six coumarin compounds previously reported in A. gigas and optimizing the analytical conditions for their simultaneous determination. To establish an optimized analytical method, sample preparation and instrumental conditions were refined, and the method for the simultaneous determination of six coumarins were validated in combination with a 50% ethanol extract of A. gigas. As a result of method validation, good linearity with correlation coefficients (R2) exceeding 0.998 was observed within the quantitative range. The precision was in the range of 90.45 to 109.87%, and the accuracy was in the range of 90.18 to 109.94%, both of which met the guidelines for analytical methods of individually approved functional ingredients established by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. Accordingly, the optimized analytical method was demonstrated to be suitable for the simultaneous determination of six coumarins. In addition, applicability to an ethanol extract of A. gigas was evaluated, and it was validated again that the present method is suitable for the simultaneous quantification of six coumarins. Based on these results, the optimized analytical method established in this study could be used as fundamental data for the standardization of six coumarins contained in A. gigas as functional ingredients for health functional foods.
