Abstract

The planarity of vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSEL) for optical pickups of compact disks (CD) players is needed in which a holographic optical elements are generally adapted. Proton-implantation and self-aligned processes are selected for 780-nm VCSEL to be used as light sources for optical pickups of CD players. From an active medium, four-quantum-well AlGaAs shows good characteristics. Continuous wave output power larger than 1 nM in a fundamental transverse mode is required and realized. For power monitoring of a VCSEL, a photodiodes-integrated VCSEL is designed and tested.
