Abstract

A new circularly-polarized (CP) monopole antenna with two hexagonal-shaped radiators and a trapezoidal ground plane is presented. A pair of spiral-strips is used to attain circular polarization. The designed antenna structure is excited by a tapered coplanar-waveguide (CPW) feed-line, which is relatively simple but considerably increases the bandwidth. A prototype antenna is fabricated and simulated, and the experimental outcomes are in decent agreement. The designed antenna exhibits impedance bandwidth of 14.6 GHz (0.7-15.3 GHz) and circular polarization bandwidth of 1.3 GHz (2.3-3.6 GHz). The experimental peak gain of the CP antenna is 4.1 dBi.
