Abstract

In this paper, we propose a new symbol timing recovery algorithm for the orthogonal frequency division mutiplexing (OFDM) system to achieve a fast start-up using the scattered pilots under the frequency offset, the common phase error, and severe noise. With the proposed algorithm, we can detect up to ±35 sample offsets and can recover the sampling timing phase even in the carrier frequency offset of up to ±0.35 OFDM subcarrier space. So, we can much reduce the start-up time by simultaneously operating both the carrier and symbol timing recovery loops.
