Abstract

In this paper, a novel battery formation system is proposed to meet tight battery formation requirements. The requirements include battery voltage variation from zero to maximum value, very small battery current ripple and high control accuracy. The proposed system is composed of differential buck converter and two-phase interleaved buck converter which can make output voltage vary from zero to maximum while output current ripple is always zero regardless of the inductors value, the switching frequency, the number of phases and the output voltage value. A 10 kW prototype converter is developed and tested to verify the performance of the proposed system.
