Abstract

As compared to voltage-source inverters (VSI), the power decoupling element in current-source inverters (CSI) is inductor. Inductors have a long lifetime and make the CSI more reliable. However, CSI has an open-circuit problem. To avoid the open-circuit problem, overlap-time is added in the gating signals of switches which deteriorates the output current waveforms. In this paper, a new three-phase CSI topology is proposed. The proposed inverter has no open-circuit problem. Therefore, system reliability is greatly enhanced, and overlaptime can be minimized which further improves the quality of output current. Finally, simulations and experimental results are also included to verify the operation of the proposed inverter.
