Abstract

Computer Graphics Metafile (CGM) is one of the most widely and successfully used computer graphics file format, and was international standard from ISO and IEC, since 1987. The CGM files are still actively used especially in computer aided design (CAD) applications, and computer graphics data exchange. It also has a variation of WebCGM, which is widely used with Web documents including HTML5. In this paper, we present the functional details of the latest CGM standard, and design strategy and detailed designs for the decoding front-end part of the CGM binary encoding. We also present the prototype implementation. Our implementation will be used for the full-scale CGM implementation, in near future.
