Abstract

In this paper, a fault-tolerant flight control method based on control allocation is proposed. Control allocation has been commonly used as an actuator management technique that distributes redundant actuators in an over-actuated system. Not only do redundant actuators provide the higher performance to satisfy the various tactical requirements, but also they offer an opportunity to tolerate faults in the system. This paper presents a redistribution law of redundant actuators for tolerating structural faults as well as actuator faults. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated using numerical simulations with application to the F-18 HARV aircraft. A set of simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method can offer a fast and effective strategy for tolerating faults in both actuators and structure.
