Abstract

An efficient curve fitting technique has been developed to preserve the shape of complex structures. A shape-preserving curve fitting technique is frequently used in a mesh generation or a shape optimization process. Perturbations during the curve fitting process often appear if the shape of a structure is complex or if the data points are positioned irregularly. The proposed technique represents more precise and smoother surfaces than using conventional B-spline curves. Several comparisons are made and results show the superiority of the proposed technique over B-spline curves.
