Abstract
Students' learning through textbooks should be based on self-acquired knowledge and reflection. Learning through storytelling is an important tool of curriculum reconstruction. This study aims to identify the issues in the 2009 Revised Korean National Curriculum and then analyze X, the math textbook for elementary school, based on storytelling learning. The main objective of this work is to increase the effectiveness of storytelling classes and effectiveness of storytelling textbook as a teaching method. Textbook content played a role in text media reconstruction for improving learners' abilities, understanding of the main goals, learning motivation, and interest toward improvement in the new curriculum. Overall, the results of this study implied that mathematical activities based on storytelling have positive effects on elementary school students' education. However, the storytelling version of the math textbook has issues. In the future, storytelling-based textbooks should be improved in terms of ensuring active student engagement through a new version of narrative. Based on these results, education practitioners should reform the presentational mode of textbooks using storytelling learning.
