Abstract

Given that space probes undergo continuous exposure to space radiation during the missions, electronic devices intended for use in spacecraft necessitate evaluation for Total Ionizing Dose (TID) and Displacement Damage (DD) from space radiation. Here, we performed TID and DD calculations for space radiation exposure both in low-earth orbit and on the lunar surface for a Bi2Te3-based thermoelectric generator using the SPENVIS tool. Following the calculations, the output stability of a Bi2Te3-based TEG device was experimentally assessed under a proton fluence of 1.07E+10 #/cm2 with an energy of 100 MeV. The results indicates that the cosmic radiation especially for protons does not significantly affect the performance of the TEG device during the 10-year-mission on the lunar surface.
