Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Times of change are very fast moving. Especially the language of education must be a rapidly-developing world. There is a new idea, Bruner's narrative in a changing educational world. The main purpose of this article is to examine the meaning and the nature of Bruner's narrative theory and to interpret its educational idea. Since 1960, Bruner's educational theory has been studied under the title of structure of knowledge and discovery learning to many educational researchers. But from 1980, Bruner turns his stance into structure of human experience, so called narrative. His theoretical change into narrative idea may influence the sphere of curriculum and teaching. Especially narrative-based schooling is main focus of school curriculum. From the viewpoint of Bruner's narrative idea, curriculum and teaching is a kind of way of knowing in school culture. In this study, I discuss the value of narrative theory and its educational idea. With the extension of narrative idea, schooling should be re-conceptualized by folk psychology.
