Abstract

An input-output discrete event system (I/O DES) called a `cost-evaluated discrete event system (CEDES)' is proposed, where the system output is defined as a `cost' required for the firing of the input language. Based on this, a new supervisory control problem is formulated with respect to cost limitation, and the `cost-limitability' of a language is defined as a characteristic of the CeDES languages to satisfy the problem. Also, we define the `optimization problem of the CeDES' and propose a scheme using evolutionary programming (EP) for solving the problem when the DES is very complex so that the conventional control synthesis algorithm may become intractable.
