Abstract

The effect of molecular weight on fibrillation during synthesis for poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) or high syndiotacticity was studied. It was found that the fibrils were crystalline and well-oriented, with the polymer chains parallel to the fiber axis. Striations observed in the optical micrographs and small angle x-ray scattering data, suggested a microfibrillar substructure with the presence of microvoids.
