Abstract

The crystallization of amorphous Ba-ferrite films grown on sapphire(001) substrates at room temperature was studied using real-time synchrotron x-ray scattering measurements. It was found that the epitaxial Fe3O4 interlayer plays a crucial role in the crystallization process. The nucleation of non-magnetic α-Fe2O3 phase occurred at 300°C, much lower than that of magnetic Ba-ferrite phase.
