Abstract

The Dy3+ ions-doped 25Li2O:20BaO:5Gd2O3:(50-x) SiO2 glasses were synthesized by the melt quenching technique with various Dy2O3 concentrations to investigate physical, optical and luminescence properties. The results showed that the density and the molar volume trend to be increased along with increasing Dy3+ concentration. The absorption spectra showed characteristic absorption peaks in the visible and near infrared regions. The emission spectra of the glasses illustrated the highest emission intensity at 574 nm wavelength, which corresponding to Dy3+ transition of 4F9/26H13/2 level. The CIE 1931 chromaticity investigation showed that Dy3+-doped glasses emitted light with white color. J–O analysis indicates that the glass sample performs a good potential for using as white light applications.
