Abstract

Permanent magnet (PM) motors are being applied to larger system. In high speed and large scale PM motors, the eddy current in PM due to space harmonics field raises its temperature and then results in reduction of maximum torque and energy efficiency. Among new design techniques there are magnet shape optimization, segmentation and relocation of bulk magnet. This paper presents an analysis method for a coupled system of the eddy current and the temperature in the PM motor.
