Abstract

In this article, a new transport protocol named EERT (Energy Efficient Reliable Transport) protocol is proposed for Underwater Acoustic Sensor Network (UASN). EERT is based on Single-Path communication with hybrid features of Forward Error Correction (FEC) and Automatic Repeat request (ARQ). EERT employs the Hadamard code for error detection and correction, providing a dynamic feedback scheme to adjust the data block size and data transmission rate based on Bit Error Rate (BER). Based on our analytical analysis, Single Path communication with hybrid FEC/ARQ provides energy efficiency and better data delivery ratio against the existing end-to-end FEC approach proposed for UASNs.
