Abstract
The impacts of dietary phytase on the performance, blood chemistry and hematology of growing pigs were investigated. Present findings indicated that dietary Ca and P levels lower than the normal NRC recommendations significantly reduced the feed efficiency of growing pigs. Supplementation of feedstuffs with Bacillus amyloliquefaciens DS11 phytase (DS11 phytase) resulted in improved performance and blood Ca and P levels. There were no clinical or biochemical findings indicative of toxicity in pigs fed with phytase-supplemented diets. Overall, the results indicate the potential of DS11 phytase as a safe substitute for additional Ca and P requirements in feedstuffs for growing pigs.
