Abstract

The effect of Smagorinsky constant Cs on gaseous hydrogen/liquid oxygen combustion at supercritical pressures was investigated using large-eddy simulations based on the fourth order compact convection scheme. As Cs increased, flame temperatures decreased and coherent turbulent structures and streamwise vortices were weakened. In addition, for Cs values greater than 0.1, the kurtosis and skewness values were deviated from the range observed in general turbulent flows. Based on these results, the appropriate range for Cs was determined to be Cs ≤ 0.1.
