Abstract

We investigated the electro-optic variation depending on the flexoelectric effect (FE) of liquid crystal in advanced high performance in-plane switching (AH-IPS) LC mode using a high speed camera. The AH-IPS LC mode showed different flicker behavior and DC offset depending on the position in a cell at the low frequency operation. We could find out that ripple phenomenon, which occurred at the moment of frame change, was related to the different response time between splay and bend transitions and it was also caused by the FE effect.
