Abstract

Humans use narrative as a means of expressing their beliefs, aspirations, and knowledge. Narrative has the ability to make the unexpected less surprising and less strange. This function of narrative is closely related to the dialectical properties of the narrative. The narrative itself exists as a dialectical confrontation between what is expected and what has passed. Legal narrative and literary narrative also make reality and possibility coexist through narrative dialectic. Legal narrative seeks to adjust the past record to present needs and literary narrative seeks to create a world of possibilities that imitates reality. Both narratives utilize the dialectical conflict between reality and possibility for their own ends. This function of narrative dialectic needs to be utilized in various aspects of human life. In particular, it is expected that narrative dialectics will play an important role when students in education fashion their selves or understand the society around them.
