Abstract
The present study examined college students to evaluate the influence of parent-child intimacy, adult attachment, and rejection sensitivity on empathy, to illuminate ways in which empathy is fostered in the group population. The results indicated that gender, parent-child intimacy, and attachment avoidance (a subcategory of adult attachment) exerted a significant influence on empathy, while rejection sensitivity did not. We hope that our study finding will contribute to the existing body of preliminaiy data to develop intervention programs designed to promote empathy.
