Abstract

In general, permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) require four main sensors (two current sensors, one position sensor, and a dc-link voltage sensor) for continuous performance. If a sudden fault occurs in any one or more sensors, the performance of the drive deteriorates and the system becomes unstable. The existing works are limited to fault detection of a single sensor. To this end, we analyze the performance of several indices for single and multi-fault sensor fault detection scenarios. The suitability of these indices for PMSM is analyzed. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the pros and cons of various methods for fault detection.
