Abstract
Unique structures such as rod, semicircle, and circle structures of isolated semi-flexible helical polysilane were observed by atomic force microscopy (AFM). The chain topology significantly was related to the chain length (molecular weight) on mica surface. We have succeeded in first visualizing that switching in the topology of isolated helical polysilane main chain bearing fluoroalkyl and (S)-3,7-dimethyloctyl side groups changes from a rod to circle structure with main chain length.
