HDR image appearance mapping using dual exposed LDR images

Abstract

Display devices are difficult to express the high contrast scene because the dynamic range of device is very low than the real scene or human visual system (HSV). High dynamic range (HDR) tone mapping algorithms are developed to create a realistic image. An HDR blending algorithm is the combination method for multiple exposed low dynamic range (LDR) images and constructs an HDR radiance map. Existing HDR blending algorithms show color distortion when using only two LDR images. The reproduction of camera response function (CRF) is hard to be estimated by few images because of the lack of dynamic range information. iCAM is the HDR tone mapping algorithm based on the color appearance model. However, iCAM has hue and chroma distortion after tone compression step. This paper proposes an HDR blending and a tone mapping model to improve dual image-based HDR image toning.
