Abstract

Systematic microstructural investigations on ultrafine eutectic Ti-Fe-Sn alloys reveal that formation of the unique bimodal eutectic structure upon solidification is originated by quasi-peritectic reaction cooperated with two distinct univariant reactions. Based on this understanding, it is possible to control the volume fraction and morphology of the bimodal eutectic structures thus influencing both strength and plasticity of the samples at room temperature compression.
