Abstract

Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) brings a new change in the people life as they plan a journey around the world. Rapid advancement in the field of mobile information system along with the intelligent multimodal mobility services take significant benefit of associated technology from emerging ICT frameworks. Therefore, recent advancement in the field of telecommunication has witnessed rapid interest in ITS, in which the vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETS) got much more attention. Software Defined-Network (SDN) can also bring advantages to ITS due the flexible and programmable to the network via its logical and centralized control entity. However, the bandwidth and continuous connection between ITS and SDN is still a challenging task due to high mobility nature of the VANETS. Therefore, to cope with such constraints, this paper presents a novel notion for enhancing the capabilities of ITS via the newly proposed 5G based SDN architecture for ITS. The proposed system architecture is based on the three function layers, i.e., sensing layer, relay layer, and core network layer. Continuous accessibility, via flexible and programmable features, is achieved SDN features. Also, high data rates and bandwidth is provided by the proposed 5G architecture. The simulation results show that the proposed system architecture achieve better results as compared with Ad-hoc on-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocol.
