High chromium Fe-based bulk metallic glass with high corrosion resistance fabricated by industrial raw material

Abstract

A new type Fe 57.6C 7.1Si 3.3B 5.5 P 8.7Cr 12.3Al 2.0 Mo 2.5Co 1.0 bulk metallic glass have been prepared using pig iron from cupola and industrial ferro-alloys, which exhibits high glass-forming ability of 3 mm in diameter. It has higher corrosion resistance than the traditional SUS304 stainless steel in 0.5 M H 2SO 4 and 1N HCl solution due to its high Cr and Ni contents.
