Abstract

We propose HW/SW co-design of ARM-based CCMP-AES cipher for wireless LAN security. As a new wireless LAN security standard, IEEE 802.11i defines the AES-based cipher system in CCMP mode. Our design supports CCMP mode operation in the ARM-based platform. It is composed of CCMP S/W block and H/W block. These two blocks interface with each other through AMBA AHB. In the CCMP mode, we don't need to update the initial vector, but update only one counter value considering the packet architecture of wireless LAN. The implemented CCMP feature 315.6 Mbps throughput at 50 MHz in Altera Excalibur FPGA device.
