Abstract

We proposed a method for reducing LCD motion blur in the MPEG domain. The problem of motion blur of LCD motion blur is caused by slow response time of liquid crystal and hold-type displaying method used by LCDs. The proposed method uses MPEG motion vector and DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform) coefficients to improve the motion blur of hold-type display. We found that motion blur is caused by aperture effect of LCD in time domain effect of spatial low pass filtering. In this paper, we proposed the method using sharpening filter to cancel out the effect of spatial low pass filtering of LCD. We confirmed the enhancement of motion blur by simulation, and the proposed method will be very practical and useful.
