Abstract

The paper proposes an algorithm for estimating the initial pole position of a permanent-magnet linear synchronous motor (PMLSM). The algorithm finds the initial pole position by observing the maximum values of a position generated by two proposed reference frames for the same force input. As such, the proposed algorithm does not utilise the motor parameters and is insensitive to them. Moreover, the proposed algorithm can be easily realised, as it only uses a current controller and PI controller.
