title = "Introgression of interspecific hybrids of lily using genomic in situ hybridization (GISH)",
abstract = "Interspecific hybridisation of Lilium longiflorum with Asiatic lily hybrids and with Lrubellum resulted in so-called LA- and LR-hybrids. Some of the LA-hybrids produce 2n-pollen, which has been used to perform crosses on Asiatic hybrids, resulting in ALA-hybrids. The LR-hybrids are fully sterile and were, therefore, treated with oryzalin to restore fertility at tetraploid level. These tetraploids were crossed with L. longiflorum as a female parent resulting in LLR-hybrids. Thus, two different sources of 2n gametes producing interspecific hybrids were used as a pollen source for back crosses. The introgression processes in BC1 of LA and LR interspecific hybrids were investigated using genomic in situ hybridisation (GISH). The same number of chromosomes from each parent in the LA and LR-hybrids were transferred. Introgression in ALA originated from unreduced gametes was successfully discovered, while not any recombination in the chromosomes of the LLR derived from mitotic chromosome doubling was found. Eleven different ribosomal-DNA bands revealed in the LLR-hybrids, resulting in specific bands on certain chromosomes of L. longiflorum and of L, rubellum.",
