Microfluidic production of active color pigment for switching of structural color

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contributionpeer-review

Abstract

In this work, we develop new type of active photonic pigments to provide improved optical property and ease of fabrication. Our pigments are composed of magneto-responsive polymeric spheres of which one hemispherical surface has multiple stacks of dielectric layers. The multiple stacks provide vivid structural colors and sphere orientation can be controlled by adjusting external magnetic field, thereby enabling switching of structural colors.
