Abstract

Human diseases due to pathogenic microorganisms have been prevalent over the past few years and these infectious diseases are the main cause of worldwide morbidity and mortality (Ouédraogo et al. 2012). Treatment of pathogenic microorganisms such as Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Salmonella spp. (bacteria) and Aspergillus fumigatus and Candida albicans (fungus) is needed for human health and therefore, a variety of antibiotics have been developed and used for curing human diseases consistently (Mantareva et al. 2007, Paulo et al. 2010). Unfortunately, their continued usage in clinical application raises a serious problem, the emergence of resistant pathogens to antibiotics. To overcome the resistance, the development of new antimicrobial agents has gained increasing importance in recent years (Ahmad and Beg 2001).
