Abstract

In this paper, we propose an orthogonal frequency division mutiplexing (OFDM) synchronization algorithm to achieve a fast start-up and to synchronize the symbol timing phase using the scattered pilots under the frequency offset, the common phase error, and severe noise. With the proposed algorithm, we can detect up to ±35 sample offsets and can recover the sampling timing phase even in the carrier frequency offset of up to ±0.35 OFDM sub-carrier space. So, we can much reduce the start-up time by simultaneously operating both the carrier and symbol timing recovery loops.
