Abstract

This paper proposes a multi-beam antenna scheme which can be adopted in WiBro, the Korean standard for portable internet services. In the proposed scheme, a safety zone is defined as the area to be protected from co-channel interference and, therefore, a management of multiple safety zones within a cell makes it possible to simultaneously reuse a radio channel. The scheme is evaluated with using a computer simulation in terms of packet loss probability and data throughput. The carrier-to-interference ratio (CIR) is also analyzed to consider channel quality degradation induced from short reuse distance. Finally, the optimum size of safety zone is obtained under specific conditions.
