Abstract
An X-ray scanner providing high-quality images according to "The Implementation Recommendations of the 9/11 Commission Act of 2007" is required to detect suspect objects, and a detector with a high-detection efficiency for X-rays needs to be developed. The X-ray detector in the form of a coupled detector consisting of CdWO4 (CWO) scintillator crystals and silicon photodiode sensors is currently being developed. We investigated the characteristics of the CWO scintillator and measured the performance of the designed and fabricated silicon photodiode sensor. In this paper, we present the experimental results obtained by using a Sr-90 beta source for the signal-to-noise ratio and visible light for the quantum efficiency of the fabricated sensor. The energy resolutions of the photodiode sensor coupled with a CsI(Tl) scintillator when detecting Am-241 alpha particles and Cs-137 and Na-22 gamma-rays are also presented.
