Abstract

The development of technology to be able to reduce the energy cost is highly required in order to manage greenhouse profitably in South Korea. We have developed the underground rock storage system. The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of this system for heating and cooling of greenhouse, respectively during winter and summer seasons. It was found that the average daytime temperature in the solar-heated greenhouse was the maximum 2°C lower than in the non-solar-heated greenhouse in cooling season while the nighttime temperature was the maximum 5°C high er in heating season. The humidity in the solar-heated greenhouse was always higher than the non-solar-heated greenhouse in both seasons. It was concluded that the underground rock storage system could reduce the energy expense for greenhouse cropping in summer and winter seasons.
