Abstract

We present a well-aligned reactive mesogen (RM) layer for polarization-dependent Fresnel lens array using the nano-groove structure made by the nano-imprinting process. In our method, the RM layer is aligned on the reverse-shaped Fresnel lens template by both the bottom liquid crystal (LC) alignment layer and the top nano-groove layer. Due to the additional geometric alignment effect by the nano-groove pattern, the photo-cured RM layer can be well aligned irrespective of the complex surface structure. The nano-groove structure on the photo-cured RM layer can be used also for the LC alignment layer, which enables our combined structure of the polarization-dependent RM lens layer and the polarization-switching twist nematic (TN) LC layer.
