Protection path-based hitless spectrum defragmentation for elastic optical networks: 1+1 path protection

Abstract

We propose a protection path-based spectrum defragmentation approach to improve the spectrum utilization of an elastic optical network under the 1+1 path protection technique. Results show that the proposed approach can significantly improve spectral efficiency compared to the case without defragmentation.
