Abstract

The systematic investigation on deformation behaviors between a Ti45Zr5Cu40Ni7.5Sn 2.5 BMG containing nano-scale heterogeneity and micron-scale amorphous Zr62Cu17Ni13Al8 particle-reinforced Cu54Zr22Ti18Ni6 BMG reveals that an existence of the heterogeneity plays an important role to control the plasticity of the BMGs leading to multiplication of the shear bands. In contrast, the work hardening ability of the BMGs is strongly related to the size of the heterogeneity causing the different shear oscillations during the propagation of the shear bands.
