Abstract

An efficient mechanism to automatically configure the relative locations of distributed intelligent nodes which are arranged in a grid pattern is introduced in this paper. Through the developed approach, if an intelligent node knows the location of more than one neighboring node, its location can be identified. By harnessing the characteristics of the grid structure as well as the short-range infra-red signal communication between the adjacent nodes, the location of an intelligent node and the location map of the entire system are automatically configured at each node. Proposed algorithms in this study are tested through modularized and spatially reconfigurable multi-media platforms.
