Abstract

This paper proposed a novel split-phase direct PWM boost ac-ac converter having natural output voltage balancing. The proposed converter is derived from the recently developed dc-dc boost converter by replacing the unidirectional switches with four-quadrant switches. As a result, the two output voltages are automatically balanced even with unbalanced load conditions without any dedicated controller and/or auxiliary circuits. A 250 W prototype converter is built and tested to verify the performance of the proposed converter.)
