Abstract

The COSINE collaboration is preparing to test an annual modulation signal of the DAMA/LIBRA experiment unambiguously, with a 4×2 array of low-background NaI(Tl) crystals at the Yangyang Underground Laboratory, South Korea. We have studied more than ten NaI(Tl) crystals as part of an R&D program aiming to reduce internal backgrounds. The first phase of experiment with a ~106 kg array of NaI(Tl) crystals (COSINE-100) is under preparation to be started by summer, 2016.
