Abstract

The synthesis, structure and optical properties of one-dimensional heteroepitaxial cored (Zn, Mg)O semiconductor nanowires were described. It was observed that the structures formed in Zn, Mg and O 2/O 3 flux consist of single crystal, Zn-rich Zn 1-XMg xO(x<0. 02) core encased by an epitaxial sheath. A blueshift in the near band edge peak was observed through temperature-dependent photoluminescence. The catalyst-driven molecular beam epitaxy technique provides site-specific nanorod growth on arbitrary substrates.
