Abstract
We produced Os, Re, and Ru nanoparticles by thermally decomposing Os3(CO)12, Re2(CO)10, and Ru3(CO)12 metal carbonyl vapors, respectively, and investigated their structures and size distributions. We observed that all of them possessed a hexagonal close-packed structure like that of their bulk metals. We observed that both Os and Ru nanoparticles had a bi-modal size distributions with average diameters of (5.8, 15.6 nm) and (6.0, 12.8 nm), respectively, whereas the Re nanoparticles had a quadrupolar size distribution with average diameters of 2.4, 12.5. 26.2, and 100.0 nm.
