Abstract

Poly(oxyethylene) containing (6-nonylsulfonyl)hexylthio group or (6-nonylsulfonyl)hexylsulfonyl was synthesized by chemical modification of poly(epichlorohydrin). It was found that the poly(oxyethylene) containing two sulfone groups in the side chain (NSHSP) is a liquid crystalline without any conventional mesogenic group. NSHTP with one thioether and one sulfone groups in the side chain showed crystalline behavior.
