Abstract

Novel violet monoazo dyes were synthesized using various diazo components and a very hydrophobic coupler N,N-dihexyl-2-methoxy-5-methylaniline that was separately prepared by alkylation of 2-methoxy-5-methylaniline. Only one dye, Dye(Cl) which has a chlorine atom on 2 position of diazo component 4-nitroaniline, was selected for practically available dye in terms of color strength and light fastness on PP and UHMWPE fabrics. Optimum dyeing conditions were determined from dyeing properties investigated under various conditions. Fastnesses were good enough showing ratings 4-5 to washing and rubbing for both PP and UHMWPE fabrics. Light fastness was also practically acceptable showing ratings 3- 4 for PP and rating 3 for UHMWPE fabrics.
